Nicol

Dr Nicol has worked as a Consultant Anaesthetic Doctor in the Hunter Region since 2004 and prior to this she was a Trainee in Anaesthesia, working within the Victorian and NSW Public Health System since 1995.

She works at the John Hunter Hospital, including their On Call Roster in the neonatal and paediatric anaesthetic area and paediatric and special needs patient groups comprising at least 50% of her work load.

This work entails General Paediatric Surgery but also includes anaesthetics for thoracic and laparoscopic abdominal paediatric cases, as well as dental anaesthesia for individuals with special needs. 

In the adult realm, Dr Nicol works regularly to provide Anaesthesia for Orthopaedic Surgery, especially Upper Limb, Vascular Surgery and General Endoscopic procedures. However she is comfortable caring for all patients needing anaesthetic management across most surgical craft groups.

Dr Nicol maintains professional membership with Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (ANZCA), Specialist Paediatric Anaesthetists of New Zealand and Australia, (SPANZA), and the Australian ASA and AMA all providing her with professional and educational support.

Grew up as part of a large family in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, learning quickly how to manage diverse groups of people with conflicting aims and plans. A great benefit for my career not so much for the big brothers and sisters for whom I’m simply the bossy little sister! But I am a favourite Aunty!

Single handedly raised a strong independent child supporting their interests and talents in art, drama and costuming, certainly outside my comforts of sci-fi nerd and maths geek!

Finally, I have settled to enjoy the benefits of a coastal lifestyle and the enjoyment of travel for the new people it allows you to meet with the different perspectives travel provides and being one to need an intellectual challenge I have for some years attempted to learn French!
