Specialist Anaesthetist

Background

Dr Egerton completed his medical degree (BMed, Hons, Newcastle) in 1994 & has trained & worked in anaesthetics in the United Kingdom as well as NSW, Tasmania & the ACT.

Since returning to Newcastle in 2005, he have been working as a Specialist Anaesthetist at public and private hospitals across the Hunter region including The John Hunter Hospital & The Mater Hospital.

He is a member of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists & a Fellow of the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. Dr Egerton keeps fully up to date by complying with his specialist college’s continuing professional development program.

He works with a variety of surgeons across several specialties but he has a focus on ophthalmic (eye) surgery, plastic surgery (including cosmetic), bariatric (obesity) surgery & cancer surgery (breast, bowel & melanoma).

Commitment to His Patients

They will receive a tailored approach to their anaesthetic & pain relief based on their medical history, type of surgery & previous anaesthetics.
o He will provide them with the safest possible anaesthesia & minimise pain
o Evaluate & help them understand risks of surgery & anaesthesia
o Discuss any previous anaesthesia experiences, problems or fears that they may have
o Answer any questions they or their family have
o Minimise pain & nausea throughout their hospital stay. Dr Egerton is available to nursing staff if they have any problems with pain or nausea

When will they meet him?

Dr Egerton sees his patients for a pre-operative consultation on the day of their surgery. However, if they would like to see him in his rooms beforehand, they are welcome to contact his office for an appointment.

He will also arrange to see them in his consulting rooms if they have a complex medical history.
